New construction of a production hall
Since its official founding on January 1st in 1957, GIS AG has been at home in Schötz, Lu-cerne. As a specialist in the division of precision mechanics, it started with 6 employees. Over the past 60 years, GIS has become one of the world's leading companies for electric chain hoists and complete crane systems with more than 110 employees. The original production area of 600 m2 has increased to 11'700 m2, however, the last building expansion was made more than 30 years ago. Thanks to the successful development in recent years, the capacity limits have been reached, which is why the construction of a new production hall has begun in these days.
Mid-February, the excavators started the demolition of the old office and factory building. They are from the early years of GIS and now have to make room for a four-storey construction. If everything works out as planned, the new wing will be ready for occupation at the end of 2019. The new production hall offers an additional usable area of 1400 m2. As a result, the internal logistics, in particular the transport of the crane system components, can be optimized and the production capacity of the main product, the electric chain hoist, can further be increased. The employees will also get a modern common area with showers, a locker room and a kitchen.
This project is a new milestone in the history of GIS and a clear commitment to the production location in Switzerland. It contributes to secure the jobs in Schötz in the long term. With the expansion of the GP electric chain hoist series and the introduction of the new trolley generation, two ambitious long-term objectives are scheduled for 2020 for which GIS will already benefit from the new infrastructure.
